Company![]() | Press Releases April 19, 2002 Kerio MailServer 5 with F-Secure anti-virus Kerio Technologies offers F-Secure anti-virus option for use with its secure messaging solution SANTA CLARA, CA - Kerio Technologies, a Silicon Valley software publisher specializing in Internet security products, has released F-Secure Anti-Virus Module for Kerio MailServer. The module uses F-Secure’s Content Scanner Server. This product supports gateway level mail scanning with Kerio MailServer 5.1, Kerio’s recently updated messaging solution that offers secure mail delivery via SMTP, POP3, IMAP, and WebMail. Kerio MailServer passes all incoming and outgoing email through the F-Secure Anti-Virus Module using a dedicated plug-in. The anti-virus is able to scan all messages regardless of how the mailboxes are accessed by users, whether using IMAP, WebMail or SMTP. This overcomes a major drawback of anti-virus SMTP gateways that scan only email sent through SMTP servers. "Many corporate networks today use web based mail delivery to give users more flexibility and control when accessing mailboxes from multiple locations," says Dusan Vitek, marketing director of Kerio Technologies. "With most gateway mail scanners, only messages entering the mail system through SMTP are checked for viruses. If, for example, an employee of a company uses webmail to send a message to another employee within the same company, the email will be placed directly in the recipients mailbox without using SMTP protocol and therefore will never be scanned by the anti-virus gateway. This is a real security threat." "Instead of examining and disinfecting thousands of individual desktops, enterprises need to be protected at the point of entrance which in most cases is the mail server. This gateway protection is core to our strategy, and is personified in Kerio’s leading-edge solution," said Ilkka Starck, executive vice president of F-Secure Inc. In addition to anti-virus protection, Kerio MailServer provides attachment and content filtering that can block potentially dangerous attachments and offensive email. Kerio MailServer also includes anti-spam protection and support for MAPS databases of known spam mail servers. Kerio MailServer 5.1 and F-Secure Anti-Virus Module for KMS are available for purchase online from the Kerio eShop or through any of Kerio’s worldwide partners. The combined solution retails at under $1000 for the entry-level base product, which supports 20 users. Current product portfolio covers network firewall (WinRoute Pro and a simplified version WinRoute Lite), desktop firewall (Kerio Personal Firewall) and messaging server with antivirus protection (Kerio MailServer). Kerio's corporate headquarters are located in Santa Clara, California, with offices in France, Great Britain and the Czech Republic. For more information on Kerio, please visit www.kerio.com.
