Kerio simplifies VPN for companies with Windows networks

New Kerio WinRoute Firewall 6 allows small businesses to connect their remote workers securely via compact SSL-based VPN clients

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Kerio Technologies has released a new version of its Internet security offering for small and medium sized networks, Kerio WinRoute Firewall 6. The major improvements over the previous version are the all-new integrated SSL-based VPN server with the Kerio VPN Client for Windows, and the integrated gateway anti-virus for email and web downloads.

The new one-click Kerio VPN Client can allow full and unrestricted access to internal company resources for remote workers. "Kerio VPN Client has virtually no settings to configure, thus limiting the possibility of user error," says Dusan Vitek, marketing director for Kerio Technologies Inc. "Essentially, it means a lower administration and maintenance burden for companies."

In addition to providing remote VPN access for workers, Kerio WinRoute Firewall 6 can securely connect two or more offices through a server-to-server setup over the Internet.

The new Kerio WinRoute Firewall 6 is also available with integrated McAfee Antivirus. Starting at $499, the new version can be used as anti-virus gateway and scan every email message entering or leaving the network while filtering web traffic for virus-infected content in downloads.

The new version further improves its content filtering capabilities to include peer-to-peer client prevention. The new P2P Eliminator uses an advanced statistical method to detect connection attempts from file sharing applications, such as Kazaa or eDonkey. "Kazaa, when misconfigured, is a tremendous security threat. It is easy for a user to unintentionally share the content of their entire hard drive and expose the sensitive company data to just about everybody on the Internet," explains Dusan Vitek.

Kerio WinRoute Firewall 6 is an ICSA Labs-certified corporate firewall for Windows 2000/XP/2003. It is designed primarily for small and medium sized businesses, providing them with a familiar Windows GUI for easy network administration.

Pricing and availability
Kerio WinRoute Firewall 6 is available now and starts at $399 for 10 users or $499 with integrated McAfee Anti-virus. The Kerio VPN Client software is included in the price of the server. Optional surf protection component ISS Orange Web Filter is an additional $249 for 10 users.
