    Introducing Kerio Control 8.5

Kerio Control 8.5 boosts security for remote access with the addition of 2-step verification, as well as adding numerous usability improvements for users and administrators alike.

    2-step verification

The 2-step verification in Kerio Control improves the security of remote access to services hosted behind the firewall by requiring an authenticated user to provide an additional form of identification. Users use their credentials to authenticate and must also type a special time-limited code generated by a mobile application like Google Authenticator or a similar app.

Read more about 2-step verification in the articles Configuring the 2-step verification and Authenticating to firewall with the 2-step verification.

    Service Discovery forwarding

Kerio Control allows zero-configuration devices (for example, printers, Apple TV, etc.) to work across different IP subnets, including Kerio VPN.

Read about Service Discovery forwarding in the article Configuring Service Discovery forwarding in the Kerio Control network.

    New alerts

Kerio Control 8.5 adds many new parameters that can trigger an alert to be sent to the administrator by email. These include:

    • Additional system alerts

    • Log message alerts

    • Traffic rules alerts

    • Content rules alerts

Read about the new alerts in the article Using alert messages.

    Other improvements

    • Kerio VPN Client installer for Mac OS is now built using PackageMaker. This allows administrators to deploy Kerio VPN Client using deployment tools like Apple Remote Desktop or FileWave.

    • Power users who require multiple connections can now assign custom labels to connections and remove old, unused connections.

Read about the removing connections in the article Configuring Kerio VPN Client.

    • You can change the MAC address of an Ethernet adapter.

Read about overriding the MAC address in the article Changing MAC addresses of network interfaces.

    • To improve the readability of various data transfer charts, you can choose bits per second (rather than bytes).

    • The dialog box for defining IP address groups includes guidance and special notations to simplify the task of defining IP address ranges and subnets.

Read about defining IP addresses in the article Configuring IP address groups.

    • You can select and copy hosts in Active Hosts and Active Connections and paste them into other dialog boxes or applications.

    • The configuration log is easier to read, as each event can include a friendly description of the change.

    • If you want to configure exceptions for anti-virus scanning of certain file types, you can choose from predefined categories of extensions.

    • You can apply bandwidth rules to guest interfaces, as opposed to a defined traffic rule.

    Changes in system requirements

    Discontinued support

Kerio VPN Client is no longer supported on Microsoft Windows 2000.

For details, read the Technical Specifications.
